BENEE is a 19-year old New Zealand music genius. Melting indie pop and R&B, she deconstructs modern pop music to create a sonic landscape all her own. She grew up in Auckland among a community of creatives, learning to sing, play the guitar and saxophone.
After uploading a series of covers on SounCloud, she caught the ear of seasoned producer Josh Fountain and soon began writing and recording at Golden Age Studios whilst following her senior year of high school.
In 2018, she released her debut single “Soaked”, and it has immediately been a success garnering over 13 million views and climbing Spotify’s Viral Charts. BENEE went from playing her first small club gig to her first arena show.
In 2019, she has joined Republic Records, and she’s now ready for the world-wide release of her debut EP written and produced alongside collaborators Djeisan Suskov and Josh Fountain.
“Right now, I have a blank canvas. I want to pick different mediums, smash them all together through music and physical art, and collaborate with as many different creatives as possible. I use the example of a Jackson Pollock painting”, she says about her music production.
Nowadays, she has recently embarked on her sold out headline run, dubbed the ‘Lil North American Tour’, which included a sold-out gig at Brooklyn’s Rough Trade on October 21, as well as shows in Boston, Washington, D.C. and Toronto.
She also has a sold-out London show at Camden Assembly and an upcoming sold-out Australian headline tour making stops at Spilt Milk Festival.
Finally, for Halloween, she has released a new track titled “Monstra”. It deals with the fear of being taken in the night by someone outside your room. To make it, she’s been inspired by Arabic music and its double harmonic scale whith western music inspiration.
