Dispense with all objects of personal gratitude. The door has now opened on unknown territory. This is my journey. This is “Acid Reflux” by Rone, an artist who’s forced me to unlearn the initial writing art, and I’ve felt my way anew across once familiar keys. When a music journalist arrives at a piece involving Toshinori Kondo (in the case of Rone, the trumpeter expresses something like the freedom of standing up in an open top car in full motion through the city heat waves), then conventional diction must be tested.
If you’ve got a certain type of mind, geared wholly to a particular state, then “Acid Reflux” will send you to a protective enclave, where you can spend time trying to work the track out. And you’ll enjoy trying to do so. This track is included on Rone’s third album, Creatures, due for release on the 9th of February. You can pre-order Creatures here, listen to “Acid Reflux” below.
