Emerging artist George Wilks released his new song “Better Times” earlier today, and it’s a certified earworm.
Fusing elements of pop, funk and whispers of jazz, George Wilks will appeal to fans of Jamie Cullum and Jon Bellion, with new track “Better Times” boasting full-flavoured riffs and a juicy bassline.
Currently in the early stages of his musical career, “Better Times” is Wilks’ second release, following his debut single “Ecstasy” which dropped across streaming platforms in December.
“Better Times” leans away from the more pop-centred sound heard in “Ecstasy”, and towards funkier grooves. The clipped, swinging rhythm combines with Wilks’ warm, jazz-tinged voice to sculpt a clean and velvety sounding track. Lyrically, “Better Times” succeeds in bringing across the gentle exasperation implied by the verses, while maintaining a buoyant vitality throughout.
The 22-year-old Music and Sound Recording graduate is currently writing and recording new music from his home in Sussex, with many more exciting tracks on the way. You can catch George Wilks live in venues across London, Guilford and Brighton. His next appearance will be at Gigi’s Hoxton in London on February 6, followed by a performance in The Lion & Lobster in Brighton on February 25, and The Bedford in London on March 3.
