At only 19 years old, Grace Shaw, professionally known as Mallrat, has nothing but a bright future ahead.
After several releases on SoundCloud that led to her first EP Uninvited in 2016, the singer has dropped the visuals for her single “UFO“, in collaboration with rapper Allday.
The video comes off the back of her latest EP In the Sky, that was unveiled on June 1.
“UFO” is the most melancholic release from Mallrat. In this highly pensive and insightful track, the singer conveys a feeling of pervasive loss with lines like “You were all that I believe” coming back in the chorus and delivering a haunted vision of, perhaps, a gone lover?
But as Shaw tries to escape her feelings (“I live in the sky, I live in the sky”) the personal growth and subconscious metabolization of what has happened takes her to a whole new world, where ‘UFO can take her home’.
Assisted by Allday, who provides a great closure to this mesmerizing cut with his rap/sung verses, this song has the potential to make Mallrat a household name in the industry.
The video, released exclusively on Billboard, mirrors Grace’s dream-esque world with a disturbing opening scene featuring a worm slithering on a hand, and Mallrat singing in the hallway of a deserted school.
